Il numero medio di lingue parlate dalle popolazioni europee - Average number of lanuguages spoken by EU population

Il sondaggio Eurobarometer 386 organizzato dalla Commissione Europea ha fornito dati sulla capacità e comprensione linguistica dei cittadini europei.
Interessante è vedere il numero medio di lingue parlate.


La definizione di mediana è la seguente : X½ per un paese significa che tra il 45 % e il 55 % ( cioè "circa la metà " ) dei suoi abitanti parla X + 1 lingua.
Ad esempio , 1 ½ per la Francia indica che circa la metà dei francesi parla due lingue: il francese più un'altra lingua straniera.
Il confronto tra le due mappe mostra alcune tendenze interessanti:  Italiani e greci, per esempio, entrambi parlano in media 1,8 lingue, ma la mediana è 1 per l'Italia e 2 per la Grecia . Questo perché l'italiano medio parla una lingua, ma chi parla una seconda lingua parla, di solito, 3 o 4 lingue. La maggior parte dei greci, invece,  parlano due lingue, ma pochi di loro ne parlano 3 o 4.

The survey Eurobarometer 386 has been organized by European Commission and it has shown important data about the linguistic comprehension ability of European citizens.
The average number of languages spoken by Eu population is the most interesting information.

This is the definition of median:  X 1/2 means that an amount between 45% and 55% (almost the half) of the population  of the country can speak X + 1 language.

For example: 1 1/2 for France means that almost the half of french population speaks two languages, French + another language.
A comparison  between the two maps shows that Italians and Greeks speak at average 1,8 languages, but the median number is 1 for Italy and 2 for Greece. I falsi amici - False friends

Quando si impara l'inglese, primo o poi ci si imbatte nei cari "falsi amici".... e chi sarebbero vi chiederete?  Sono nemici e fanno confondere. Sono omonimi, ma mai sinonimi.

Vediamo qualche esempio dall'inglese:

il verbo "to attend" = frequentare e non attendere (to wait)
"educated" = istruito e non educato (polite)
"delusion" = illusione e non delusione (disappointment)
"sane" = sano di mente e non in salute (healthy)
"sensitive" = sensibile e non sensitivo (sensory, che riguarda i cinque sensi)

State all'occhio e diffidate dalle imitazioni!!

Italian people who start to study English, face to some difficulties: the false friends.
It also works for English people who start to study Italian language.
False friends are homonyms but not synonyms!
They look or sound similar to each other, but with a different meaning.

An example can be :

english "delusion" is very similar to italian word "delusione", but they have different meanings:

Delusion means a mistaken idea < - >  Delusione means disappoinment.
